Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted wreckage fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
