Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police released surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a baby.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in spring and was projected as an important component of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with New York in March.
