The team Veterans Over 35s are based in southern Manchester and play in the Cheshire-based Vets League Top Tier.

The roster this season boasts nine former top-flight players, with a total over 1,800 Premier League appearances.

The elite roster also includes over 220 top division scores and over 320 international caps.

They feature one forward, who notched 37 scores in over 100 games for Newcastle United after moving to them for £9m from German league club SC Freiburg in 2012.

"That's a little different but then, I enjoy running and just move forward - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep attacking.

"The running is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

Along with Cisse's 6 goals on debut, Ireland has netted 8 in three appearances for the side, while George Boyd hit 5 on his debut appearance and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, scored a hat-trick in one match as a striker.

"I felt I was a little starstruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Our side competed well for a good 20 mins but then we had a man sent off and it was tough.

"Our group really have not stopped chatting about it - I was calling my mother and sibling on the way home.

"The opponents were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like facing a bunch of regular guys.

"Now we are eager for the return fixture."
