In other parts of the UK, the weather is set to be ideal for fireworks celebrations, with no rain and clear skies. The mercury are forecast to be cold, so extra layers essential, as per forecasters.

In more northern areas, conditions will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to hamper visibility for seeing fireworks. "It won't be low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.

Public Health Warnings Issued

At the same time, amber-level health advisories are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with the mercury forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.

The health agency explained this signified the weather was expected to cause major effects across medical and care provision. This includes a potential rise in the fatality numbers among those with health conditions or those 65 and older.
