‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: Meg Ryan Publishes Emotional Homage to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the late director Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the hit rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Heartbreaking Event

Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles this past weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” the actress posted on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being held without bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan continued. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy released a message today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner through a message shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” the tribute noted. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

A Storied Career

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, making over $93m at the box office and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.

Reiner’s extensive filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
