The NRL's governing body has announced that participants who join the “breakaway” R360 league will be barred for 10 seasons.

R360, which plans to launch in late 2026, is aiming to attract players from union and league with substantial agreements and a slimmed-down game calendar.

Leading rugby league athletes have reportedly received offers by R360, which will include six or eight men's teams and four women's sides operating from large metropolitan areas worldwide.

Samoa's the player, who represents his NRL club in the league, has confirmed he has had discussions with the new organization.

Papenhuyzen, Lomax, Haas and Jye Gray are also reported to be considering joining the new competition.

Several leading union nations, among them Australia, last week announced a restriction on players joining R360 appearing in international matches.

“We've listened to our clubs and we've responded strongly,” commented ARLC chief Peter V'Landys.

“Unfortunately, there will always be groups that seek to pirate our code for potential financial gain.

“They avoid funding in pathways or the advancement of players. They simply exploit the dedication of other organizations, jeopardizing careers of financial loss while gaining personally.

“Essentially, they are, counterfeiting a code.”

R360 is launched by former England World Cup winner Tindall and backed by private investors.

Following the prospective rugby union sanctions were declared recently, it commented: “We seek to cooperate in partnership as part of the worldwide fixture list.

“The competition is structured with customized calendars for male and female sides and we will release all players for test matches, as included in their agreements.”

The new league will apply for endorsement for its proposals from rugby union's governing body, union's administrative organization, at its council meeting next year.
