The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
