Thrice-crowned MVP Nikola Jokic sustains a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "devastating" knee injury as the Nuggets lost 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury late in the first half in an unintentional collision with teammate Spencer Jones.
His teammate landed on the footwear of the MVP, who immediately went down to the court clutching his leg.
The 30-year-old, who leads the league this season in boards and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup before sustaining the problem.
Jokic will have an MRI scan on the following day to assess the extent of the problem.
"Right away, Jokic understood there was a problem," commented Denver coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Anyone who gets hurt, it's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as important as him. More information will come on Tuesday."
"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, at this moment, I'm focused about Jokic personally and the frustration of experiencing something of that nature."
